Yakult‑organised Japan media trip inspires NutraIngredients feature on healthy aging

In November last year, Yakult Europe organised a media trip to Japan for European journalists and content creators, focused on the role of gut health in healthy aging. The initiative brought together 14 journalists and content creators as well as gut health experts and Yakult colleagues, with the aim of sharing first‑hand insights into Japan’s longevity culture and Yakult’s long‑standing approach to health and wellbeing.

During the trip, participants explored how science, lifestyle, and policy come together in Japan’s approach to healthy aging, including visits to Yakult Honsha Headquarters in Tokyo, talks on microbiome research, Yakult’s philosophy, and the enduring principles of Dr. Minoru Shirota. The programme also introduced Japanese food culture, fermentation traditions, and community‑based health initiatives such as the Yakult Ladies programme, offering a broader view of how preventive care is embedded in daily life in Japan.

One of the participants, Olivia Haslam (Deputy Editor at NutraIngredients), published an extensive article focused on Yakult, highlighting how nearly 90 years of Yakult expertise are shaping the conversation around healthy aging and gut health.
